Julia made a trip to Fort Smith, Arkansas on February 3rd to visit the campus of Westark College. It was a beautiful campus and we enjoyed the visit very much. The Coach and staff at the college was extremely helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We really appreciated their hospitality and came away with the feeling that Westark College has a quality program and great volleyball program.
We were impressed by the physical appearance of the campus. It was obvious that the citizens of Arkansas take great pride in Westark. This is outside in the center square. There is a hedge maze and several neat fountains, fountains and lots of flowers.
There is a beautiful bell tower right in the middle of the campus. There is also a brick courtyard. It was really neat.
This is a large sundial located in the middle of the campus.
You can get a pretty good idea about how pretty the campus of Westark is with this photo. It was a little chilly and everything was brown, but is was still really nice looking. Lot's of new construction ... new gym, new Student Union, etc.
Library and Student Union in the background.
Westark College is located in the western part of Arkansas in Fort Smith. Here are some pictures we took when we drove into town:
The downtown area has been revitalized and there is lots of shops to browse in. While we didn't get the time to go to any of them, we should get the opportunity next year!
Downtown Court Building and Holiday Inn where we stayed.
One of the big selling points were the dormitories for the athletes. What a well kept secret. There are two girls in a room and the two get an entire one bedroom apartment furnished by the college. He are a couple of pictures of the room. I'll leave them big so you can see them. (I hope the girls don't mind!)
So that's a brief summary of Julia's trip to Fort Smith and Westark College. It was a nice trip and maybe Julia will be going there next year as a volleyball player and academic!
Write Julia a note and encourage her to go!
